Full Color, On-Demand Printing Continues to Grow as Publishers Move to E-Readers
Sep 20, 2011

As publishers wind down their mass production printing operations in a move toward digital book sales, on-demand printing has become an essential service for universities, independent authors and more. In 2007, almost 286,000 print-on-demand-titles were produced, more than double the number of titles printed in 2006. The on-demand market rose 774% between 2002 and 2007. These statistics are based upon preliminary data from over 75,000 publishers.
According to InfoTrends, the copying and digital printing market in the United States accounted for 921 billion impressions in 2010, generating total revenues of nearly $19 Billion. They believe that the growth in short-run, full color options has been the driving factor behind the growth in on-demand printing.
Book publishing is hardly the only market experiencing a growth in on-demand printing. According to another InfoTrends study, print on-demand label presses are expected to generate more than $1.7 billion in sales in 2011 alone.
These figures point to the fact that publishers and businesses are becoming more strategic about the way they handle their printing orders. On-demand printing increases a company’s efficiency, reduces waste, and cuts back on warehousing costs. To learn more about on-demand printing, click HERE.
